“HPU in the City” is an immersive networking and learning program by High Point University that takes students to major metropolitan areas to meet with alumni working in prestigious companies. This experience gives students insight into different industries, strengthens their professional network, and provides inspiration for their career goals. Designed for motivated students across various majors, the program emphasizes experiential learning, professional growth, and personal reflection.

During the site visits, students engage in the following:

  1. Introduction to senior management and sessions on the company’s corporate culture.
  2. Overview of internship and entry-level hiring processes by the human resources team.
  3. Networking session with current employees.
  4. Guided tour of the company’s facilities.

Application and Selection Process

To ensure that participants are highly motivated and ready to maximize their experience, students must apply to the program. The selection process will consider:
• Academic Performance and Extracurricular Involvement: Preference for students who demonstrate a commitment to their academic and career pursuits.
• Statement of Interest: A short essay detailing why the student wishes to participate and how they hope this experience will contribute to their career goals.

Selected students will receive confirmation and instructions on preparing for the program, including tips on professional etiquette and networking strategies.

Applications will open Fall 2025.

Program Structure:

The program includes three main components:

  1. City Exploration and Alumni Meetups:
    • A curated trip to a selected city where students will meet HPU alumni across top companies in their fields.
    • Visits to offices and facilities to gain insights into various professional environments, including corporate, start-up, and creative industries.
  2. Networking Seminars and Workshops:
    • Interactive workshops led by alumni or industry experts on career-building, interview skills, and industry trends.
    • Q&A sessions that allow students to gain candid insights into career paths, professional growth, and networking tips.
  3. End-of-Program Reflection:
    • After returning, students are required to submit an essay reflecting on what they learned during the experience. They should cover how the program impacted their understanding of potential career paths, industry insights, and personal growth.
    • Essays will be reviewed, and students will receive feedback to help them incorporate insights into future career plans.
